Protecting the environment

One of the key aims of re-plenish is to make a difference to the environmental impact of what usually happens to waste food. We believe it is important to have our own environmental policy, to stick to it and to regularly review it.

Energy consumption

We are committed to:

  • Link in with the Carbon Trust Switch off Campaign to ensure all head office appliances are switched off when not in use
  • Investigate switching head office electrical supply to 100% green energy
  • Appoint a colleague energy champion to ensure that good domestic practice is followed around energy consumption
  • Link in with national campaigns throughout the year, such as Earth Hour, to raise awareness around reducing energy consumption
  • Measure and report the Food Banks energy consumption impact on the environment on a yearly basis
  • Implement an energy consumption reduction plan each year.

Renewable energy

  • We will link in with Low Carbon West Oxford to investigate any renewable energy opportunities specific to Ray Mills house, our head quarters.

Waste and recycling

  • We will implement recycling bins in the head office location
  • We will return recycled materials to the Oxford recycling centre as part of the food distribution miles.

Overall carbon emissions

We guarantee:

  • To measure and report the Food Bank's impact on the environment through food distribution miles, and colleague business miles
  • To put plans in place to reduce this impact through campaigns such as Green Travel week and through The Energy Saving Trust.

Working with our partners to defend the environment

We promise to:

  • Work to provide advice to our projects and suppliers on how they can reduce their impact on the environment.
