It is quite shocking how much unwanted food we, as a country, throw away every year. These statistics are taken from WRAP’s website. WRAP is an organisation which works with local authorities, businesses and households to reduce waste, increase recycling and develop markets for recycled and sustainable products.

FACT - total food waste in the UK is 18 – 20 million tonnes a year.

FACT – 6 – 7 million tonnes is household food waste.

FACT – 1.6 million tonnes is food waste from retailers.

FACT – 4.1 million tonnes is food waste from food manufacturers.

FACT – 3 million tonnes is food waste from food services and restaurants.

The rest comes from the agricultural, horticultural and commercial sectors.

FACT – re-plenish believes this level of food waste is not acceptable.
